About this piece
Where a downspout carries on below ground, an adapter takes it from the downspout's shape into the round drain pipe. It keeps the joint tight and keeps soil and roots out of the drain.
We fabricate adapters from 2x3 and 3x4 rectangular, or 3 inch round, into 3 or 4 inch round drain, in 16 oz or 20 oz copper. Pair one with a cleanout above it so debris never reaches the drain.

Common questions
As a rule of thumb, 5 inch gutter takes a 2x3 rectangular or 3 inch round downspout, and 6 inch gutter takes a 3x4 rectangular or 4 inch round downspout. Large roof areas may need the bigger size or more downspouts.
Elbows are numbered 0 to 4 by angle: number 0 is 30 degrees, 1 is 45, 2 is 60, 3 is 75 and 4 is 90. The 75 degree number 3 is the standard elbow for most downspouts.
As a starting point, plan one downspout for every 30 to 40 feet of gutter, and one at each end of runs that slope both ways. Steep or large roofs need more. This is general guidance, not an engineering calculation.
Corrugated downspout has ribs pressed into the wall, which make the pipe stiffer and give it a traditional look. Smooth downspout has clean, plain faces. Both carry the same water for the same size.
