Details
About this piece
A strainer is a domed wire basket pushed into the gutter outlet. Water runs through the wire; leaves and twigs stay on top, where they dry and blow off or can be lifted out.
Ours are copper wire, so they weather with the gutter and never rust. Order one for each outlet, in the outlet's size.

Common questions
As a rule of thumb, 5 inch gutter takes a 2x3 rectangular or 3 inch round downspout, and 6 inch gutter takes a 3x4 rectangular or 4 inch round downspout. Large roof areas may need the bigger size or more downspouts.
Elbows are numbered 0 to 4 by angle: number 0 is 30 degrees, 1 is 45, 2 is 60, 3 is 75 and 4 is 90. The 75 degree number 3 is the standard elbow for most downspouts.
As a starting point, plan one downspout for every 30 to 40 feet of gutter, and one at each end of runs that slope both ways. Steep or large roofs need more. This is general guidance, not an engineering calculation.
Corrugated downspout has ribs pressed into the wall, which make the pipe stiffer and give it a traditional look. Smooth downspout has clean, plain faces. Both carry the same water for the same size.
